1So the heavens and the earth and all the host of them were completed. 2And on the seventh day God finished the work that He had done. So he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. 3And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all the work that God had done as a Creator.
4These are the beginnings of the heavens and the earth when they were created, on the day the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. 5Not every tree of the field was yet in the earth, nor was any herb of the field yet to sprout, for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, nor had there been any man He is to cultivate the earth. 6Then a mist came up from the earth and watered the entire surface of the earth. 7And the Lord God formed the man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. So Adam became a living soul. 8And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden to the east, and there he placed the man whom he had formed. 9And out of the ground the Lord God caused every tree to grow that is pleasing to one’s sight and good for food, the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of goodness Evil. 10And a river came out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four heads: 11The name of the one was Pishon, and it is the one that surrounds All the land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12And the gold of that land was good. There are the eyeballs and the onyx stone. 13The name of the second river is Gihon, and it surrounds the whole land of Ethiopia. 14The name of the third river is Hadadakl, and it flows to the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
15And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend it and keep it. 16And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden. 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you may not eat “The day you eat from it you will surely die.” 18And the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper to match him.” 19And the Lord God formed out of the ground every living creature of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them A living soul is its name. 20And Adam called by name all the livestock, and the birds of the air, and all the animals of the field. As for himself, he did not find a helper like him. 21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept. And he took one of his ribs, and filled up its place with flesh. 22And the LORD God built the rib that he had taken from Adam into a woman and brought her to Adam. 23And Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man.” 24Therefore a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.
