When the Moon Smiled at Youssef

On a quiet and beautiful night, Youssef went out to his balcony to admire the beauty of the sky, which was covered with shining stars.

As he stood there, the moon was full and bright that night, its light filling the entire sky.

Youssef said, "Glory be to Allah, the Most Wonderful! How beautiful this moonlit night is!

He smiled, feeling as if the moon was smiling back at him.

Youssef said, “Welcome, my friend! Have you come tonight to listen to my stories?”

At that moment, Youssef felt as if the moon could truly understand him.

Youssef's Curiosity About the Moon

Then Youssef went into his room and sat on the sofa, thinking about the moon.

He asked himself, “Where does the moon's light come from? And what does it look like in space?”

Youssef's Magical Journey to the Moon

He imagined that he was wearing a space helmet and traveling in a rocket on a new adventure among the stars to explore the moon up close.

When Youssef got closer to the moon, he felt very happy, as if the moon was welcoming him with a bright smile.

Youssef Discovers the Changing Moon

A few days later, Youssef was in his room, sitting at his desk studying his lessons.

Then he looked out the window beside him and started gazing at the sky.

He saw that the moon was not full like before. Surprised, he said,

“What happened to the moon? Why doesn't it look full tonight like it did before?”

Where Did the Moon Go?

A few days later, Youssef was walking in his home garden.

The sky was full of stars that night, but it wasn't as bright as before because the moon was missing. Youssef looked up at the sky with surprise and sadness on his face and said,

“Where did the moon go today? Why can't I see it in the sky?”

Youssef Discovers the Phases of the Moon

The next day, Youssef decided to go to the science lab during the break, where Mr. Qasim was sitting, to ask him about the moon.

Mr. Qasim welcomed Youssef kindly. Then he went to the board and drew a big circle to explain the different phases of the moon.

Smiling, the teacher said,

Youssef, the moon doesn't always look the same in the sky. It appears in different shapes every night.

Sometimes it looks like a small crescent at the beginning of the Arabic month.

Then its light grows little by little until it becomes a full, bright circle. We call this the full moon, and it appears in the middle of the Arabic month.

After that, the moon starts to shrink again until it disappears completely at the end of the month.

These are the different phases of the moon, Youssef.

Youssef Discovers the Secrets of the Moon

Then Yusuf asked his teacher, Mr. Qasim, curiously, “Where does the bright light of the moon come from, teacher?”

The teacher smiled and answered, “Well, Ill explain it simply. The moon is a dark body and doesn't have its own light. It gets its light from the sun's rays that shine on its surface. That's why we see it glowing brightly in the sky.”

Youssef looked at the drawing for a while and then asked curiously, “And what is the importance of the moon, teacher?”

Mr. Qasim smiled gently and said, “Youssef, the moon helps us know the Hijri months. It also affects the sea, causing tides. And it lights up the night with its beautiful glow. It is the Earth's friend because it always moves around it.”

Youssef smiled with wonder and said, “The moon is amazing, teacher! I will watch it every night to see how it changes.”

Youssef Goes Home with New Knowledge

After the school day ended, Youssef left the classroom and walked home with a smile on his face, because he got the answers to his questions about the moon from Mr. Qasim.

Youssef's Dream of Becoming an Astronaut

When evening came, Youssef sat with his mother, as he did every night, to tell her about what had happened to him at school in an interesting conversation.

Then he told her what he had noticed about the moon lately and about his visit to Mr. Qasim, the science teacher, to ask him his questions.

Youssef said to his mother with a smile:

I have learned a lot from Mr. Qasim, Mom, and I gained so much information about the moon."

His mother said kindly:

“That's good, my dear son. When we have many questions about the things around us and don't know their answers, it's best to ask someone who knows more than we do.”

Then Youssef said excitedly:

Do you know, my dear mother? I want to become an astronaut when I grow up so that I can learn more about the moon, the stars, and the planets.

His mother smiled warmly and said:

Wonderful, my son! I wish you a bright future and great success."

Welcome Back, My Moonlit Friend!

Then it was time for dinner. Youssef sat at his table to eat his meal. He looked at the window beside him and saw the new moon shining in the sky among the stars.

Youssef smiled and said, Welcome back, my friend!

How beautiful you look in the sky!
