 The Last Letter

The sun had set, and the sky was a deep shade of blue as Amelia walked down the empty street. She was holding a small envelope in her hand, its contents weighing heavily on her heart. She knew that this would be the last time she would see him, and the thought made her eyes fill with tears.

Amelia had been in love with Jack for as long as she could remember. They had grown up together, played together, and went to the same school. But as they got older, Jack became more distant. He started hanging out with a different crowd, and Amelia felt like she was losing him.

She had tried to tell him how she felt, but every time she tried, the words caught in her throat. She didn't want to lose him as a friend, and the thought of being rejected was too much to bear. But now, as she walked to his house to deliver her last letter to him, she knew that she couldn't keep her feelings hidden any longer.

When she arrived at his doorstep, her heart was beating fast in her chest. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Jack's mother answered and smiled warmly at Amelia. "Hello, Amelia. Jack is in his room. You can go up and see him."

Amelia nodded and climbed the stairs, her hand trembling as she held the envelope. When she reached his door, she hesitated for a moment before knocking. There was no answer, and she wondered if he was even home.

She pushed open the door and saw Jack sitting on his bed, staring out the window. He looked up when she entered, and his face softened when he saw her. "Hey, Amelia. What's up?"

She walked over to him and sat down on the edge of the bed. "I came to give you something." She held out the envelope, and he took it from her.

"What's this?" he asked, turning the envelope over in his hands.

"It's a letter," she said softly. "From me."

He looked at her, confusion written all over his face. "A letter? What's going on, Amelia?"

"I just needed to tell you how I feel," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I know it's too late, and you probably don't feel the same way, but I had to tell you before I left."

"Left?" he repeated, still looking bewildered. "Amelia, what are you talking about?"

She took a deep breath and looked him in the eye. "My family is moving away. We're leaving tomorrow, and I don't know when I'll be back. I just needed to tell you how I feel before I go."

He opened the envelope and began to read the letter. As he read, Amelia watched his face, trying to gauge his reaction. He looked up at her when he finished, and there were tears in his eyes.

"Amelia," he said, his voice shaking. "I had no idea. I had no idea you felt this way."

"I know," she said, feeling the tears starting to fall down her cheeks. "I was too afraid to tell you."

He got up from the bed and walked over to her, taking her hand in his. "Amelia, I don't want you to leave. I don't want to lose you."

She looked at him, hope filling her heart. "You don't?"

"No," he said, shaking his head. "I've been in love with you for years, Amelia. I just didn't know how to tell you. I thought you only saw me as a friend."

Amelia's heart soared, and she threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. "I love
