Bible Genesis 12
Chapter twelve
1And the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. 2And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3And I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse. And through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” 4So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5So Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions that they had acquired, and the persons that they had possessed in Haran. And they left to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.
6And Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. The Canaanites were then in the land. 7And the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him. 8Then he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel and pitched his tent. He has Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. So he built an altar to the Lord there and called on the name of the Lord. 9Then Abram set out southward.
10And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine in the land was severe. 11And it came to pass, as he was about to enter Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are a beautiful woman. 12And it will come to pass, when the Egyptians see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife. They will kill me and spare you. 13Say that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me because of you, and that my soul may be saved for your sake.”
14And it came to pass, when Abram was come into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15And Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her before Pharaoh. So the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house. 16And he did good to Abram because of her, and she became his father Sheep, cattle, donkeys, male servants, female slaves, donkeys, and camels. 17And the Lord struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife. 18So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this that you have done to me? Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? 19Why did you say, “She is my sister” that I took her to be my wife? And now here is your wife! Take it and go!” 20So Pharaoh gave men to him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.
