Chapter eleven

1And the whole earth had one language and one language. 2And it came to pass, as they journeyed eastward, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. 3And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bread and roast it a little.” So they had brick in the place of stone, and they had clay in the place of clay. 4And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. And let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” 5So the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men were building. 6And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is the beginning of their work. And now nothing that they intend to do is withheld from them. 7Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they do not listen to one another’s language.” 8So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased to build the city. 9Therefore the name of it was called “Babylon,” because there the LORD confused the language of all the people Z. And from there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

And Haran begot Lot. 28And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, Ur of the Chaldeans. 29And Abram and Nahor took for themselves two wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah My father left him silent. 30Sarai was barren and had no child. 31And Terah took his son Abram, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and they departed together from Ur of the Chaldeans To go to the land of Canaan. So they came to Haran and resided there. 32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years. Terah died in Haran.
