When Fear Becomes a Story

On the edge of a quiet city that people believed was safe, there stood an old house in an eerie silence, as if it was watching everyone who passed by. No one dared to go near it, not only because it was abandoned and broken, but because everyone who tried to enter either came out changed… or never came out at all. People said the house never slept like normal homes; instead, it stayed awake even when everything around it was silent.

On a cold winter night, a young man named Samer decided to break this fear. He believed that everything people said was just exaggeration, and that the human mind creates fear when it cannot understand something. He stood in front of the old wooden door and noticed that the handle was rusty, yet the door itself looked strangely clean, as if someone had been taking care of it for years. Suddenly, without him touching it, the door slowly opened.

Samer stepped inside and found the house wrapped in thick darkness. But this darkness was not normal—it felt alive, as if it was moving around him. The air was heavy, and every step he took echoed endlessly. The walls were covered in scratches that looked like unfinished words, as if someone tried to write something but stopped in fear. He felt like something was watching him, even though no one was visible.

On the first floor, he found a large cracked mirror, but it reflected him in a strange way. His reflection was slightly delayed, moving a second after he did. He froze, and his reflection suddenly smiled, while he did not. He stepped back, but the reflection remained smiling, as if it was not him anymore.

Then he heard footsteps upstairs—slow and heavy—despite being sure he was alone. He climbed the stairs carefully, each step making the wood groan as if it was in pain. The closer he got, the louder the sounds became, until it felt like they were circling around him.

Suddenly, everything went silent. He entered a small room upstairs, completely empty except for a single chair in the center. But the moment he stepped in, the door slammed shut behind him. He turned quickly—no one was there—but the air turned freezing cold.

Whispers filled the room, calling his name again and again. He tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t move. He looked at the small mirror in the room and saw something standing directly behind him, though nothing was visible when he turned.

Then a voice whispered right next to his ear: “Finally… you’re back.”

He froze completely, and in an instant, everything went dark. No sound, no light, no footsteps—only a heavy silence that felt like the end of the world.

In the morning, the house was still there, quiet and locked as always. But Samer never returned home. Some say he left the city without telling anyone. Others swear he is still inside the house, waiting for someone new to open the door… and begin it all again.
